How long does it take to dry?

Our Milk Paint dries in just 30 minutes. Yes, you read that correctly! It's the fastest drying paint on the market. In fact, it takes less time than streaming an episode of your favorite show. Your time is precious, so get your topcoat ready. You'll notice the color of the Milk Paint changing within minutes, becoming chalky and less intense. Don't worry, the true vibrancy will shine through once you apply the topcoat.

What about the topcoats? What do you recommend?

You can use any topcoat of your choice with our Milk Paint. One of our top recommendations is Hemp Oil, known for its ease of use. It provides a beautiful finish and enhances the vibrancy of the Milk Paint. Working with Hemp Oil is a pleasure as it is a naturally drying oil without any additives or solvents. It works wonders on raw, new, or reclaimed wood. Plus, it has a delightful fragrance reminiscent of crushed walnuts.

What kind of surfaces can I use Milk Paint on?

The sky's the limit! You can use Milk Paint on virtually any surface you need to paint. Whether it's metal, glass, plastic, or wood, our Milk Paint can work its magic.

What's the texture like?

Smooth as butter! When properly finished, Milk Paint feels almost like a factory spray finish, even though it's applied with a brush. It self-levels, creating a flawless surface. However, water can raise the grain of bare wood, so a light sanding may be required after the paint dries. To avoid creating dust, you can apply hemp oil before sanding or distressing.

Do I need a primer?

No primer needed! When applied to raw wood, Milk Paint binds with the wood fibers, preventing peeling. It can also absorb into porous surfaces without additional products, such as brick, mortar, or plaster. Chipping may occur when applying Milk Paint to an existing glossy sheen paint or a surface that has been oiled or waxed. This chipping effect can be intentionally beautiful. Fusion Mineral Paint's low matte sheen allows Milk Paint to adhere well to it. We always recommend testing your methods before starting a project.

How is your paint made?

Milk Paint by Fusion is made the traditional way, and we value its authenticity. True Milk Paint comes in powder form, and all you need to add is water. We hand-make each small batch of Milk Paint, sourcing materials as locally as possible. We support local companies for our raw materials and packaging, and we hire local artisans to pour and package everything right here in North America.

How do I avoid brush strokes?

Milk Paint is incredibly forgiving to work with, and creating brush strokes is nearly impossible due to its smooth, creamy consistency. Enjoy a super smooth finish every time.

Do I have to mix the whole bag?

No need to waste anything. Only mix what you need for your project. Milk Paint in powder form is shelf-stable and doesn't go bad, unlike premixed paints. The powder can last indefinitely if kept in a tightly sealed container at neutral temperatures, protected from humidity. If you mix too much Milk Paint, simply store it in a tightly sealed container and stir it up when you're ready to use it again. There's no need to refrigerate it. Our convenient quart and tester sizes allow you to complete projects of any size without waste.

Is the finish sheer or opaque?

The choice is yours! For a solid, opaque coverage, mix 1 part Milk Paint powder to 1 part water. If you prefer a more translucent stain-like look, mix 1 part Milk Paint powder to 3 parts water. Adjust the ratio according to your desired effect. If the finish appears too opaque, add more water. If it's too transparent, add more powder. Experiment and find the perfect balance for your project.
